Practice and Readiness

Understand what you need to prepare and how that differs from the band's shared progress.

Prepared is a promise, not a score

Prepared means you can make a basic independent pass through your part, follow the current arrangement, and bring the hard spots to the band. It does not mean polished or Tight.

Personal readiness

Available

Tell the band whether you have started, are practicing, or are prepared.

Each member tracks their own preparation per song; the signal is separate from shared arrangement quality.

    You have not yet confirmed that you know your part.

    Practicing

    You are actively working on your part or need to revisit it.

    Prepared

    You can contribute your part so shared time can focus on ensemble work.

Personal Practice brings together the Learning songs that need your attention across every artist you belong to. The queue explains why each song matters; it is not another band board.

Shared song progress

Available

Track how the arrangement sounds as a band.

Rough, Playable, and Tight assess the shared arrangement. A leader then explicitly graduates a Tight song to Gig-ready.

    Rough

    The band can begin a pass, but the arrangement still breaks down.

  2. 2

    Playable

    The band can get through the arrangement with known work left.

  3. 3

    Tight

    The shared arrangement is reliable enough to consider graduating.

  4. 4

    Gig-ready

    A leader explicitly graduates the song into the performable subset.

Tight does not auto-promote

Tight is the band's shared assessment while the song is In Progress. Gig-ready is a separate lifecycle destination and always requires an explicit leader decision.

Focused Band Practice

Available

Start new rehearsal work only when the people and the board are ready.

Moving To Do into In Progress requires every member Prepared and a free WIP slot. A leader may explicitly overbook a full slot, but cannot bypass preparation.

The Focus limit has one deliberate exception

Normally, a To Do song needs every member Prepared and a free In Progress slot. A leader can explicitly overbook a full slot after confirmation, but cannot bypass the all-Prepared requirement.

Band member

Own your Not started, Practicing, or Prepared signal honestly. Members do not start shared work or graduate songs; their preparation makes those leader decisions useful.

Make the Prepared promise clear, watch the shared rollup, and decide when a song enters In Progress or graduates. If you overbook the Focus limit, make that trade-off explicit.
